Elementary April News
Two Students from Elkhart Elementary have worked hard for the opportunity to have lunch with their school principal, Tana Herring. First grader, Morgan Whitaker and second grader, Kameryn Tillman, were the first two students to exceed the 60 points needed in the “Accelerated Reader” program to earn lunch with their school principal. Morgan Whitaker earning 102 points and Kameryn Tillman earning 75 points enjoyed a fabulous chili cheese dog lunch on Tuesday, April 17th. The girl’s hard work and dedication also earned them the privilege to attend the upcoming “Accelerated Reader” party in May. For the last “AR” party students will travel to Reagan Park to enjoy pizza and play time! Congratulations Morgan and Kameryn on a job well done!
Elkhart Elementary students in Pre-K and Kindergarten have been learning how things grow. Last week students enjoyed one of their favorite activities, watching the transformation of caterpillars to butterflies. After learning and recording the four stages of the butterfly life cycle, students released their butterflies on the school grounds. It was truly an exciting and fantastic event watching each beautiful butterfly fly away!
On Monday, April 2nd Elkhart Elementary joined the world in an awareness celebration of “World Autism”. People from all over the world dressed in “BLUE” to shine light on autism. The day also featured educational events for teachers and parents, as well as exhibitions showcasing work created by children with autism. Elkhart students from all grades wore BLUE to celebrate and show their support for the wonderful people in their lives affected by autism.
On Tuesday, April 3rd Pre-K students from Elkhart Elementary had their annual Easter egg hunt. Students traveled to Reagan Park in Palestine and enjoyed a day of fun activities.
