PRINCIPAL’S LETTER MAY, 2012
Dear Families of Elkhart Elementary,
WHEW! I don’t know if you feel the same way, but it seems as if this school year has flown by at a great rate of speed! I can’t believe I’m sending out the letter for MAY!
May 1 is our GT field trip to the Skateplex in Jacksonville. They are leaving at 7:40.
We will wrap up our Character Counts words with “fairness.” All students will wear orange on May 2. This is the day that Mrs. Smith, our counselor will be having lunch with those whose teachers felt they showed great examples of fairness in the classroom and out.
Field Day for Pre-K through 2nd grades will be on May 3, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Mrs. Farrow will be sending a schedule out with events, etc.
On May 4, expect to see progress reports come home. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK begins the following Monday, May 7-11. We also honor our nurse, Janette Cooper on May 9 for National School Nurse Day.
May 11 is the date for our 1st grade to attend Kids Depot in Tyler. Also, our 2nd grade and multi-age classes will be having a “water activity” day as well as pizza for their accomplishments in Accelerated Reading here at our playground.
On May 15, our 2nd grade will be walking over to the 3rd grade building to meet the teachers for next year as well as to see where their classrooms will be. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be changing classes next year, and we want our 2nd graders to feel more at ease by seeing where they will be as well as who the teachers are.
At 9:00 a.m., on May 17, our Pre-K teachers will present their program in the auditorium. This is for the 4 year-old classes only. Mrs. Karen’s class will not be participating.
Our last day for Library will be on May 18. PLEASE make sure that your child has turned in all books by this date. We will also be celebrating our last A.R. party with pizza at Reagan Park on that day. 1st graders who have earned 60 points and 2nd graders who have earned 80 points will be allowed to go on that day. More information will be coming in regard to time, etc.
Palestine Public Library is going to visit our students on May 21, presenting their summer reading program in the auditorium at 8:30.
The UIL field trip is scheduled for May 22. More information will be coming later in the month.
Kindergarten graduation will be held on May 24 at 8:30. Also our 1st and 2nd grade awards will be presented on May 24 at 10:00, immediately after Kindergarten graduation.
As a reminder, PLEASE do not expect to take your students from the auditorium in the middle of the assembly. We will not release a child to you until the teacher is back in the classroom after the assembly. It is very distracting to those giving and receiving awards when adults are trying to talk to teachers and find their children. We will allow Kindergarten to leave after they are finished, and then 1st grade will leave when they are finished, so that you can go to the classrooms to get your children.
We will have EARLY RELEASE ON MAY 24 and MAY 25 at 1:30. Please make arrangements for your children to have childcare at that time on those days if there is a change in arrangements due to early release.
Report cards will be sent home on May 25. We are looking forward to ending our school year with great success! Your children are a joy and blessing to work with every day and the staff at Elkhart Elementary hope you all have a wonderful summer. We will begin our new school year on August 27, 2012!
Sincerely,
Tana Herring, Principal Last Updated (Wednesday, 02 May 2012 07:49) |
